Feufollet at La Fête du Marquette
Monday 7.9
Screamin' Cyn Cyn & the Pons
High Noon Saloon, 9 pm
The Madison punk-pop mavens meld flamboyant stage antics and taut songwriting that's deliriously smutty. They're fresh off the May release of their sophomore CD, Screamin' Target Heart Rate. With the New Thrill Parade and Wildildlife.
Tuesday 7.10
Wednesday 7.11
Drift Effect
Annex, 9 pm
Minnesota's Drift Effect wail and moan in the manner of Audioslave and Pearl Jam. To put it another way, nearly every song is Bic-worthy. Whisperwall, Harvey and Kennedy Road open.
Radio Birdman
High Noon Saloon, 9 pm
Radio Birdman were largely responsible for bringing elemental, Stooges- and MC5-influenced rock to Australia, and in doing so, they influenced generations of bands on the other side of the world. And while some legends are content to go through the motions, these guys most certainly aren't. Pearlene open. Pick of the week.
Thursday 7.12
Sweet-Cannoli Nuptials
West Side Club, 7:30 pm
Back for a fifth year, the locally produced improv show-cum-catered meal simulates every wedding reception you've ever attended, and captures many comic truths about those often uncomfortable affairs. The experience is immersive -- performers have been known to put wedding cake directly into the mouths of (hopefully) willing patrons.
La Fête de Marquette Pre-party
High Noon Saloon, 8 pm
France's Treize A Table join Cajun up-and-comers Feufollet and New Orleans' blistering Hot 8 Brass Band to prime the pump for the annual alfresco fete. It's sure to be a night of sweat-soaked two-steps and revelatory second-line grooving.
Piano Fondue
Madison's, 9 pm
The team of Christopher Lange and Joshua Dupont tickle the ivories of matching baby grands and belt out tunes by the likes of Elton John, Patti LaBelle and Sir Mix-A-Lot. A request process whereby audience members use tips to veto one another's requests is too complicated to explain here.
Cealed Casket
UW Memorial Union, 9:30 pm
When your face-painting front dude professes to be the "Jesus Christ of heavy metal," you'd better have game. Although goofball ghouls Cealed Casket make fun of rock 'n' roll sturm und drang, they've definitely studied at the cobweb-draped altars of the masters. Awesome Car Funmaker open.
