Mary Lou Williams Youth Explosion
Overture Center's Promenade Hall, 7 pm
The city's yearlong celebration of pioneering jazz figure Williams is nearly over. But there's still time for some youthful exuberance in the form of performances by the Stoughton High School Jazz Ensemble, Madison Youth Choirs and high school students delivering original poetry inspired by her.
High Noon Saloon, 8 pm
Colton's known for touring with Counting Crows, John Mayer and Dave Matthews Band, and for his love connection with Kelly Clarkson. But it's his 2007 single "Best Days" that's made the biggest splash, appearing on Kyle XY, American Idol and Oprah's short-lived reality show The Big Give. With Bascom Hill.
Majestic Theatre, 8 pm
Though they've earned a few Grammy nominations, the L.A. noise-pop duo still wear their iconoclast badges with pride. Their newest album, Everything in Between, is slightly more focused than 2008's Nouns, with shrieks of distortion, pounding rhythms and guitars that evoke every possible emotion at just the right moment. With Lucky Dragons and Peaking Lights.
Tuesday 11.23
NOTEWORTHY: Queen frontman Freddie Mercury dies of AIDS-related causes, 1991.
Barrymore Theatre, 7:30 pm
Radin owes a lot to his actor buddy Zach Braff, who placed his first song, "Winter," on Scrubs back in 2004. That kind gesture led to more than 75 placements of his tunes in TV shows and movies. Attend this show to predict which singles from his new album, The Rock and the Tide, will add acoustic charm to soundtracks in 2011. With Good Old War and Kelly James.
