Thanksgiving is here, and it's a safe bet that most folks' plans for the week consist of food, food, and more food, compounded perhaps with some travel and shopping. There are a few oppportunities to get out around town before the big day, though. The options include: live music by Clawthroat and Kitty Rhombus, Asylum Street Spankers, Meteorade, ComplexComplex and Czarbles; stand-up by Kevin Bozeman, and a performance by Foxy Veronica's Peach Pies.
Monday 11.24
Clawthroat and Kitty Rhombus
High Noon Saloon, 9 pm
In a week packed with instrumental rock standouts, Kitty Rhombus, a fairly new but technically skilled local band, makes two public appearances in support of the genre. Twin Cities folk outfit Clawthroat should provide an intriguing and rootsy counterpoint.
Tuesday 11.25
Asylum Street Spankers
High Noon Saloon, 7 pm
The Austin-based, very funny string-band eclecticists arrive on the heels of their latest release, What? And Give Up Show Business?, the CD of the Spankers' stage show that ran for a couple of weeks in New York earlier this year.
Meteroade
The Annex, 7:30 pm
Madison's Meteorade plays poppy, melodic, '90s-style indie rock that pays homage to artists such as Weezer, Cake and the Shins. Also playing: One for the Team, These Green Eyes.
ComplexComplex and Czarbles
Frequency, 9:30 pm
The tight and frenetic prog of the Czarbles joins the jazz-tinged electronic handiwork of ComplexComplex for a show that's sure to please fans of math rock, post-rock and Krautrock. Also playing: Zebras.
Wednesday 11.26
Kevin Bozeman
The Comedy Club, 8:30 pm
The Chicago-based comic, a Madison native, now performs at the Loony Bins and the Funny Bones of this great nation. But he's back for another Thanksgiving Eve at the Comedy Club, now in new digs across State Street from the old digs.
Foxy Veronica's Peach Pies
High Noon Saloon, 9 pm
The ladies of this cabaret-burlesque troupe will tickle your funnybone with a ridiculous striptease or two, but you'll stay for their vocal talents as well, whether it's a Broadway show tune, a Metallica spoof or a dirty singalong. Learn more about the Peach Pies' plot to take over the world -- and your stereo -- in this week's music feature. Also playing: J. Davis Trio, DJ Stulander.
