Monday 10.13
Pinback
High Noon Saloon, 8 pm
Like their albums, Pinback's live shows burn with a quiet intensity and a melancholy that grows darker with each chord change. Selections from their 2007 Touch & Go release Autumn of the Seraphs are on the docket, and perhaps a few tunes from their well-crafted 2004 offering, Summer in Abaddon. Also playing: Make Believe.
John Craigie
The Frequency, 9:30 pm
On his "Folk the Vote" tour, Craigie's been playing coffee houses from Maine to Oregon, trying to revive the traveling folk singer tradition that launched Bob Dylan and Woody Guthrie. He takes a break from caffeine this week by bringing his rootsy brand of Americana to the stage at the Frequency. Also playing: Marty Finkel.
Tuesday 10.14
George Winston
Majestic Theatre, 7 pm
The master of contemplative solo piano is all but synonymous with new age music, though on closer inspection his tunes often sound closer to folk. His most recent album, 2006's Gulf Coast Blues & Impressions: A Hurricane Relief Benefit, supported hurricane victimes, and he'll be donating a portion of the take from the merch table tonight to Second Harvest food bank.
The Projection People and Woven
Frequency, 9:30 pm
Fresh off the Madison Music Foundry anniversary party on Saturday the Projection People bring their synths and samples downtown, while Woven serves up a heady mix of trip hop, goth pop and space rock. Also playing: Caustic.
