Contributing editor George Vukelich devotes his "Listening In" column to Madison anti-nuclear activist Bonnie Urfer, serving time in federal prison for "an action against a missile silo" in Missouri. Her protest history began in 1983, when she and two others chained themselves to the doors of the Federal Building in Madison to protest the U.S. invasion of Grenada. Since then she's been arrested "about 17 times," and says going to prison (her scheduled release date is in late 1990) "has actually increased my commitment to civil disobedience." The co-director of Nukewatch, Urfer is now living on the Anathoth Community Farm near Luck in northwest Wisconsin and is scheduled to speak at The Progressive's centennial celebration next month at Monona Terrace.
