Madison physician and concert promoter Liz Karlin plans to record Odetta's Nov. 22 performance at the Wisconsin Union Theater for release as a live album, staff writer Phil Davis reports. It would be the folksinger's first release in more than a decade. "I wanted a new Odetta record to listen to," Karlin explains. "Before I booked her for last year's show I thought her voice was actually growing more beautiful over time." Adds Odetta: "I haven't decided exactly what will be on it. The concert will be two hours long, so that will leave some room to pick and choose. What results will be collaboration. Liz and I will sit down and discuss what we want." The result was Movin' It On, released in 1987 on the Madison-based Rose Quartz Records label. Dr. Karlin dies in 1998 of cancer. Awarded the National Medal of the Arts by President Clinton in 1999, Odetta continues to tour and record. Her most recent album is Gonna Let It Shine.
