This just in, that notorious brown shirt and rabble rouser (snark alert) Tommy G. Thompson will headline Thursday's tea party in Madison starting at 11:30 a.m. on the King Street side of the Capitol Square.
My old boss will headline a bill also featuring the sweetheart of the airwaves, the divine Miss Vicki. Those two alone pack enough punch to bring the crowd to a furious boil.
Might want to keep the kids home and the doors locked if you're anywhere near the Square. Memo to Jason Joyce: make sure Vince O'Hern gets to Home Depot before the supply of 4 by 8' sheets of plywood sells out. You don't want something should happen to your windows at Isthmus world headquarters. Maybe I can steer the mob toward Dem party headquarters across the street. If not, maybe you can hand Lueders over to us for a human sacrifice.
Oh, wait. This won't be one of Comrade John's Fair Trade riots.
It's a tea party, comprised of a cross-section of tax paying (and paying), hard-working middle America. That's right, fear-mongers, tea party participants mirror the populace from which they come. Unless you believe USA Today/Gallup is in league with "Faux News." Gallup conducted a poll late last month. Who are these people? 65% are are college graduates or have attended some college -- same as the general population. 6 percent are black compared to 11 percent of the general population. Here's the poll.
What? They're not "mean, racist, stump-toothed,Republican-voting rednecked hillbillies who drive around in gas-guzzling recreational vehicles and answer the call of Sarah Palin's Facebook page whenever it orders them to attack gays, Democrats and blacks, unless they're too busy organizing Christian militias and showing off their their collections of Nazi memorabilia while attending gun shows," as Michael Walsh at Big Journalism jokes.
Well, then let's paint them as such. Don't worry, the complaisant mainstream media will go along.
ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) Opponents of the fiscally conservative tea party movement say they plan to infiltrate and dismantle the political group by trying to make its members appear to be racist, homophobic and moronic.
Jason Levin, creator of http://www.crashtheteaparty.org, said Monday the group has 65 leaders in major cities across the country who are trying to recruit members to infiltrate tea party events for April 15-tax filing day, when tea party groups across the country are planning to gather and protest high taxes.
The entire phenomenon of the once "Silent Majority" taking to the streets to voice their displeasure (and yes, their anger) with a metastasizing government is so far outside the approved liberal narrative that it must be explained away. You mean "the people" aren't all liberal tax and spenders? First it was Pelosi calling it astroturf. But that's a lot of Hollywood extras being bused around the country.
That is why partisan operatives like Basford need to believe (or want us to believe) that the Washington D.C. tea party protest surrounding last month's weekend House vote on Obamacare was a sequel to Mississippi Burning. That leads to ...
Today's chuckle:

Nice to see Chuckles and the rest of the Hate Right smearing Congressman John Lewis. Next thing you know, they'll be claiming he made up what the proto-tea-partiers did to him at Selma.
Selma, Alabama, March 7, 1965 -- "Bloody Sunday" - when 600 civil rights marchers were attacked by state and local police with billy clubs and tear gas.
Washington, D.C., March 20, 2010 -- when 15 tea partiers out of a crowd numbering about a thousand allegedly used the N word as a few members of the congressional black caucus walked to vote for an historic expansion of the federal government. Put on your headphones kids and see if you can hear anything other than "Kill the bill" and scattered (and well deserved) booing.
