Barack Obama's boast to the 2004 Democratic National Convention that liberals pray to a powerful God was a breakthrough.
The pronouncement was seen as a corrective to the "narrative" that Liberals bring ACLU lawsuits against invocation speakers when they're not burning flags and heckling armed service veterans. Some of them even pledge allegiance to the flag, the "under God" part and all (NBC notwithstanding).
These seven years later, the Blaska Policy Research Center and Experimental Work Farm ("Bipper-CEWF") wondered if the rest of Liberal Land got the memo.
Channeling his inner Joe McCarthy, the Squire of the Stately Manor girded his loins and visited their hangouts over the Independence Day weekend to survey the current state of patriotism among our Leftward acquaintances. (For they ARE ...) Your favorite Blogge ranks the sites with its patent-pending "Patri-oto-meter." I define patriotism as love of country and its ideals and not being afraid to show it. The rankings are from worst to best.
Check his papers! Matt Rothschild, editor of The Progressive engages in a Khrushchev shoe-pounding tantrum.
This July 4, I wish we, as a nation, would get over ourselves.
We are not God's chosen people.
God did not make us a shining city on a hill.
There is no God, and we have no special right to lord ourselves over the planet.
... from slavery and the genocide against Native Americans ...
Yadda, yadda, yadda. Tell it to the Kremlin.
Bolshevik bomb thrower
Who else but Forward Lookout's Kyle Szarzynski? Here is the chronic troublemaker on Prog Dane's unofficial website in a piece of treason called This 4th of July is yours, not mine.
... there is something a little absurd in watching liberals fall over each other in trying to show how they love America every bit as much as the Republicans. ...
Patriotism is and always has been the cloke (sic) by which the corporate political parties justify war for corporate profit; the national anthem is always played loudest when the sound of the bombs needs to be drowned out. ...
Perhaps this makes me a raging anti-American ...
No "perhaps" about it, Kyle. (Or is it "Ivan"?)
National security risk
TheDailyPage's own Jack Craver. Wish we could see more of his writing but, some Dutch Uncle advice, don't take your history from the UW's Havens Center, my boy. Writing as the Sconz, he decries "the nauseating debate about which side is more in line with the values of the various slave owners who started the country."
At least he professes to love the 4th of July celebrations.
For his July 4 blog, Fighting Ed Garvey calls for socializing the proposed iron mine in (where else?) Iron County. Continuing his nefarious work, Ed announces the keynote speaker for the next Fighting BobFest: Bernie Sanders, the socialist from Vermont. There were no socialist signatories on the Declaration of Independence or the Constitution. None.
Pete Seeger wannabes
That would be the Capitol Solidarity Singers. Their songbook is replete with protest songs like "Sticking with the Union" and "Solidarity Forever." No room for "God Bless America?" Not even one patriotic song?
For that matter, did even one rally at the Capitol this year begin with the Pledge of Allegiance?
True leftwing patriot
I did find someone who truly gets the American experiment at an impeccably Leftist source. Here is "RiotLibrarian" at DailyKos:
The Declaration is much more than a document declaring our Independence. It is a document declaring the real-world practicality of Enlightenment ideas, a clarion call to take the entire human race the next step forward.
.. This country is not perfect, because it was made and is governed by imperfect people. We lose sight of our ideals and often have fallen short of them. ...
But it is still a wonderful country, and I feel fortunate to have been born here, so that I have the privilege of caring for, protecting, and defending this great wonder of humanity.
Ronald Reagan could not have said it better. Well, actually, he did, but still ...
