We're halfway through August, and we have a lot behind us. Not all, but a lot. The result of Tuesday's recalls left us with a pretty good idea of the turmoil to come in the next three years. But for one more special election, the matter of citizen redress is over for the time being. Let's look ahead to more pleasant things.
So here's a heads-up for fun: the Isthmus annual Madison's Favorites party. This is, of course, where we reveal the results of June's polling of the readership for their favorites in a variety of categories. The results enliven the Isthmus Annual Manual, coming to you as usual inside issue number 34, Aug. 25. And, as usual, we give you a preview of the results with the Madison's Favorites Party. This year however, we do something not so usual, and that is to take the party out of downtown.
We're taking advantage of some temporarily available space on the lot of mega car dealer Zimbrick to fete our favorites. I think anyone who has lived in Madison for more than six months knows where Zimbrick is - head out Fish Hatchery Road, over the Beltine, and it's on your right. And if you need a map, there's one available on our website, TheDailyPage.com, and on our Facebook page.
There will be music by the Black Star Drumline and the Tony Castañeda Latin Jazz Band. There will be food from some of your favorite food carts (and Sassy Cow ice cream) and drink served by our event partners the Urban League of Greater Madison. And there will fun and games from sponsor Erehwon mountain outfitter.
So, as our devilishly clever headline writers exhort, "Come to Z party." Oh, and when is all this frivolity occurring? The date is Saturday, Aug. 20 and the party lasts from 6 to 11 p.m. It will be a lighthearted end to a hectic summer, and a prelude to a Brewers stretch pennant run.
