There's a light... over at a Middleton stage, as Middleton Players Theatre finally brings The Rocky Horror Show to its stage for the next ten days after promising to do so over the last couple of seasons. It's been more than five years since the cult classic musical by Richard O'Brien has been staged in the Madison area, not in front of a movie screen at a midnight showing that is, and the cast and crew of this latest revival is ready, but of course, to do the Time Warp again.
Theater writer Nadine Goff recently spoke with director J. Patrick for a story about this particularly production, and snapped numerous photos of the cast putting on the final touches on their lingerie and makeup at a tech rehearsal, including this shot of Frank-n-Furter and Rocky Horror surrounded by several Creatures from the Frankenstein Place. She notes each of the actors in the picture: "The four men standing in the rear of the photo (from left to right): John Neumueller (Creature), Chaz Ingraham (Creature), Ken Urso (Frank-n-Furter), and Brian Acker (Rocky Horror). Crouching in the front (from left to right): Laura Borgwardt (Creature), Kelly Schmidt (Creature), and Lea Polizzi (Creature)."
Fans and cinema shadow cast members attending the production interested in audience participation will have their desires satisfied at the two Saturday night shows, reports Goff, as the theater will be selling a kit that will include "such essentials as newspapers, water guns, toilet paper, and a GloStick (which will be used instead of the traditional lighters)." No carry-ins allowed, though, she notes, but costumes are encouraged.
The Rocky Horror Show opens at the Middleton-Cross Plains Performing Arts Center on Thursday, August 7 and runs through Saturday, August 16, and tickets may be purchased online. "Middleton Players has been most gracious with me when it came to their budget," says Patrick in a press release for the production, "and I can promise the Dane County theatre-goer will be treated to some effects never before attempted in Madison, to my knowledge."
