Downtown Madison was noisy with the rumbles of plows, buzzing of snow blowers, and scraping of shovels on Friday morning after the latest round of heavy snows blanketed the region. This was the second major snowstorm of the winter so far, and like the last one ten days ago, it left schools closed and events canceled across the city and well beyond. There was no snow day for plenty of folks, though, and priority number one was to clear away the drifts, including on the steps leading from State Street to the Christmas wreath-decked Capitol
More of the same reigns across much of Wisconsin, with the heaviest hit area encompassing most of the southern portion of the state. As listed by WISC and Clear Channel, schools throughout the region are closed, making for a second early season snow day in the Madison district. Some 8 to 11 inches of snow have already fallen as part of the storm across Dane County, with more expected through the morning before conditions clear in the afternoon. It will be a short respite, though, as round three is forecast to arrive on Saturday evening.
