Today's image is titled full moon rising and was photographed by Angela Richardson.
She describes the photo, which was taken on Wednesday, Jan. 3:
The full moon always rises at sunset but I'd forgotten that it would be happening today. I was taking photos in the other direction and then turned around for this glorious surprise.
Wandered around out there for quite awhile as the moon got higher in the sky. The wind was whipping but what an incredibly mild evening for early January. A possum strolled right out in front of me. It asked politely that I not take its photo.
The photo was taken on Wednesday, Jan. 3, when the moon was indeed full. More basic astronomy about the lunar cycle can be found in a Moon FAQ published by the Madison Metropolitan School District Planetarium.
