Spectral blurs and more static figures glimmer under the spinning shimmer of a Ferris wheel in this photo, shot at the "It was hot and sweaty and bright and loud and smelly and full of people," declares Richardson in the caption to the photo captured at the fair's opening night. "From my point of view, the fair provides a perfect kind of sensory overload. A night on the midway feels ever on the edge of mania - gaudy, super-saturated colors, a celebration of the ridiculous and the fantastic where thrill-seeking and self-indulgence are the norms. I truly love it."The Dane County Fair runs through Sunday, with the Midway opening and noon and running until the hour before midnight each day. "There was so much to take in," continues Richardson. "At a certain point, I had to surrender and step directly, happily into the swirl of it all. The outfits! The faces! The hairdos! The lights! Tiny children carrying giant clouds of cotton candy. Grown men cradling stuffed tigers. Everyone decked out and strutting for each other. Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!"
