Driving down to O'Hare early morning, bound for Denver, my wife and I had the radio on, listening for campaign news.
"This is it, this is the moment"
Pause. The suspense builds.
"The announcement is coming."
Pause. We're getting excited now.
"And here it is."
And then, we hear the strains of triumph. Chords building on each other, violinists pounding their bows, french horns heralding the new age.
The music is reminiscent of something, of heroism and valor, courageous men and women going boldly, into the future, where no one has gone before.
And then, with a final swelling of expectant hope, the unveiling...
Of the Obama Podium.
"Wow!" said the voices on the radio. "That is something!"
"Yes it is! Yes it is. Three 103-foot monitors, and quite a structure, built at an undisclosed expense for the Obama campaign. It is strangely stirring."
We can't wait to get to Denver to see it for ourselves. The ginormous screens. The media party at Six Flags Great America. The hundreds of displays and thousands of tchotchkes offered up by the DNCC's corporate sponsors. The new age rest and relaxation spa offered up by Arianna Huffington.
And as for the announcement of Obama's First Mate, well... we'll catch that one via txt msg.
