Fresh evergreen boughs curved in a classic holiday wreath are a simple way to bring cheer. Add just three lines in the center and you have a statement of peace as well.
For the second year, Wisconsin Network for Peace and Justice is selling peace sign wreaths, handmade by volunteers. They're eco-friendly, too, as the greens come from city brush collections and a local landowner who's trying to jettison non-native species. Hence the boughs are from different trees, cedar and pine, and "spruced" up with additional bits of nature, from pinecones and berries to dried hydrangea and pearly everlasting.
To order, contact Janet Parker at janet@wnpj.org or call 608-257-2748. There's no end-date, just "until we run out of steam," says Parker; all proceeds ($50/wreath) benefit WNPJ.
