Forward Theater Company
Forward Theater Company announced Wednesday the works it will perform in its 2013-14 season.
For its main stage series, the troupe will present three plays at Overture Center's Playhouse. Stephen Karam's Pulitzer-nominated Sons of the Prophet (Nov. 7-24) centers on two brothers wracked with difficulties, including the recent death of their father. The winner of six Tony Awards, John Logan's Red (Jan. 16-Feb. 2, 2014) illustrates how a painter grapples with being dubbed a voice of his generation in the 1960s. Set in 17th-century England, Liz Duffy Adams" Or (March 27-April 13, 2014) follows secret agent Aphra Behn, who tries to leave her life of spying behind by writing a play over the course of an evening.
Artistic director Jennifer Uphoff Gray says that, above all, these choices reflect Forward's boldness.
"We can't wait to introduce these amazing scripts to our audience," she said in a news release.
Kathie Nichols, who helms Forward's board of directors, sees this season as a milestone.
"It's our fifth season of bringing locally produced, professional theater to Overture Center," she noted in a release. "Each year our audiences have grown. Our profile has grown, both in Wisconsin and in the region."
The company also plans to stage readings of two original scripts by Wisconsin playwrights in its New Play Development Series. Actors for these performances will include Forward's Michael Herold and Karen Moeller, as well as Jake Penner and Riley Faison, and American Players Theatre veterans Colleen Madden, James DeVita, Nate Burger, and Marcus Truschinski.
