It's that time of year again! Join a celebration of the environment at the fourth-annual Isthmus Green Day at Monona Terrace on Saturday, April 16. The all-day festival offers speakers focusing on the Farm to Table movement, breakout sessions, and over 100 exhibitors offering ways to be greener at home, in the kitchen, on the road, and around the community.
The complete schedule runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Isthmus Green Day Main Stage: From Farm to Table
- 10:30 a.m.: Bartlett Durand of Black Earth Meats and Otter Creek Farm, and Robert Pierce of Growing Power engage in a growers'' discussion moderated by Rick Brooks.
- 11:30 a.m.: Special guests Dr. Brent Ridge and Josh Kilmer-Purcell, stars of the Planet Green reality show The Fabulous Beekman Boys, talk about leaving Manhattan for life on a sustainable goat farm in upstate New York.
- 1:30 p.m.: Madison parents, educators, administrators and others stand up at the Healthy Food For Healthy Kids forum, looking at ways to get healthy and local foods into our schools.
- 3:30 p.m.: Local chefs Tim Van Doren from the Blue Marlin, Rob Grisham from Brasserie V, and Dave Heide from Lilianna's will demonstrate how delicious local food can be.
Calvert Investment Stage: Breakout Sessions
- 10:00 a.m.: Self-healing and personal awareness presented by The Chakra House.
- 11:00 a.m.: Focus on Energy presents the Green Madison: Helping residents save energy and money discussion led by Paul Grimyser, an energy grants administrator with the city of Madison.
- 1:00 p.m.: Investing from the Heart presentation by Calvert Investments
- 2:00 p.m.: An introduction to solar electric, small wind, and solar thermal energy by Midwest Renewable Energy.
- 3:00 p.m.: EnAct and the Madison Environmental Group present Greener Faster Challenge participants and their goals to reduce their carbon footprint.
Northeast corner of the Exhibition Hall
- 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.: Make-your-own solar cooker workshop, at which participants will learn how to make a simple collapsible solar cooker from reused cardboard that can be used cook anywhere. All materials will be provided. Proceeds will send solar cookers to Haiti and Japan through Solar Cookers International.
