10 a.m.: Climate Change: Activism & Participation

Hear from Madeleine Para, a kindergarten teacher at Chavez Elementary who began her journey into climate activism after discovering James Hansen's book Storms of My Grandchildren on her mother's coffee table one chilly Christmas Eve. She founded the Madison chapter of Citizens Climate Lobby and helped start the local chapter of 350.org, the global climate change organization founded by Bill McKibben.
10:30 a.m.: Chef Demo by Rodey Batiza: Umami Ramen & Dumpling Bar

At Umami Ramen & Dumpling Bar, Executive Chef Rodey Batiza creates noodle soups and savory dumplings, incorporating seasonal, locally-sourced ingredients whenever possible. Umami's soul-warming fare has quickly become a hot spot in Madison's food landscape. Presented by REAP Food Group

David McClellan (Calvert Investments) and Mary Strickland (R.W. Baird Co.) discuss values-oriented investing and working with advisors who share such ideals for using money to achieve both personal and global goals.

Pat Mulvey, a personal chef with more than a decade of experience turning CSA bounty into family meals, has also been instrumental in helping Madison Metropolitan Schools shape a vision for a sustainable food program. Laura Gilliam specializes in cooking allergy-friendly meals using the seasonal products that often are a part of a CSA share. She brings expertise in natural fermentation, food preservation, and canning. Presented by REAP Food Group with Fairshares CSA Coalition.

As community relations manager for Madison Environmental Group/EnAct, Kayla Baake supervises two community sustainability programs and participates in outreach efforts. Her goal is to educate the public on the broad issues that fall within "sustainability." Here she offers simple household steps people can take to advance the cause.

Annemarie Spitznagle has always been intrigued with creating desserts from scratch. From an early age, her father encouraged her to pair unlikely ingredients and let flavors play off each other. Her specialties include honey and lavender cupcakes, heirloom apple pies, craft beer-infused brownies, and more. Presented by REAP Food Group
Noon: Yoga Demonstration by Jai Kellum
Healthy Movement Area
Yoga leader Jai Kellum is also the head farmer at King's Hill Farm in Mineral Point. Here, she links the flow of breath and movement while contemplating how to fuel the body with conscious food choices.
12:45 p.m.: Zip-Dang Upcycled Fashion Show
Isthmus Green Day Main Stage
Fab fashion curated by Natalie Bass. Bass is a self-taught seamstress who left the graphic design world to pursue sewing, starting orangyporangy, her own line of "handmade ladyware." Zip-Dang, her shop on Monroe Street, features original and recycled vintage fashion and art made by in the U.S.A. by independent craftspeople.
1 p.m.: Getting Started with Organic Gardening

Megan Cain is the program manager for the Goodman Youth Grow Local Farm and Madison FarmWorks. She developed the Kids' Garden and Youth Farm at Troy Gardens, installs vegetable gardens at homes and businesses throughout Madison, and tends the vegetable garden at the Capitol. Cain's talk is presented by Community Groundworks / Troy Gardens.
2 p.m.: Mark Bittman

Mark Bittman is changing the way America thinks about food. As one of the country's best known and widely admired food writers, Bittman has succeeded in convincing a generation raised on frozen food that they too can cook well and eat even better. In his latest work on diet and climate change, Food Matters: A Guide to Conscious Eating with 75 Recipes, Bittman explores American eating habits and the impact they have on personal health and the planet, and offers more ideas for positive change.
Presented by Isthmus with Food Fight Restaurant Group.

Kathleen Conklin of PilateSpa demonstrates intelligent movement, refining the exquisite, inherent language of human motion to enhance beauty, smarts and strength.
3:30 p.m.: Sustainability 3.0: from Scarcity to Abundance
Calvert Investments Stage
Integral to Edgewood College's Sustainability Leadership Graduate Program, Jim Lorman, PhD, has broad expertise in regenerative ecological and social systems. Kathryne Auerback is in strategy and communications. Their talk addresses how, in a culture of consumption, "sustainability" is often framed in terms of sacrifice. Yet, sustainability does not have to mean giving up that which provides true quality of life: meaningful activities, good relationships with friends and family, and a sense of belonging in socially, ecologically and economically healthy communities. Presented by Edgewood College.
4 p.m.: Music by Tim Southwick Johnson
Isthmus Green Day Main Stage
Tim Southwick Johnson is an accomplished performer on acoustic guitar, mandolin, tenor guitar, ukulele and harmonica whose original songs run from fun stories to romping finger-picking instrumentals. His latest collection, Sand County Songs, is inspired by Aldo Leopold's A Sand County Almanac.

Pop-Up Gallery of Recycled Art
Lakeside Commons, just outside the Exhibition Hall
Absolutely Art, Madison's community-based art gallery, curates this exhibition of works made from recycled and recyclable materials, including art by Erika Koivunen, Jennie Nuese, Phoebe Saunders, Efrat Livny, Beth Heeney, Brad Anderson, Karen Loper of Karenell Art, Cara Hunt, Shad Wenzlaff, Esta Pratt-Kielley, Everett Kitts and other works by Absolutely Art's artists. Be sure to check out the Little Free Libraries also on display.

Home Energy Efficiency Presentations
Focus on Energy Presentation Area
Focus on Energy works with local folks to develop and install cost-effective energy efficiency and renewable energy projects, both commercial and residential.
Throughout Isthmus Green Day, FOE experts outline practical ways to improve efficiency, touching on home heating, water heating and lighting, as well as appliance recycling and overall conservation of home energy resources.
Focus on Energy is funded by Wisconsin's investor-owned energy utilities and participating municipal and electric cooperative utilities.
