Tuvan throat singers
On March 17, 2015, Folklore Village, located about 40 miles west of Madison between the towns of Ridgeway and Dodgeville on 3210 County Rd. BB, will be presenting Alash Ensemble in Concert. Alash Ensemble is a trio of throat singers and master musicians from the Republic of Tuva, which is located in southern Siberia near Mongolia. Their distinctive traditional singing, in which multiple pitches are sung at the same time thus producing overtones, is interesting when recorded, but remarkable when experienced live. In addition to singing, band members will be performing on traditional Tuvan instruments including the igil, the doshpuluur and the byzaanchy. General admission $7 adults, $5 seniors, $4 kids under 12. 7 p.m. doors, 7:30 p.m. concert. (608) 924-4000, http://folklorevillage.com. Sponsored by the Wisconsin Humanities Council with funds from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the State of Wisconsin.
