MAMA Breakthrough Artist Competition Voting Extended to March 24
The Madison Area Music Association (MAMA) will recognize the best new Breakthrough Artist in the Madison area at its Grammy®-style 2015 MAMA Award Show. But first, the MAMA is asking for your assistance in choosing the finalists in this category. Itâ;;s a tight competition right now, so the MAMA has extended the voting deadline to March 24 for the Breakthrough Artist category of its annual awards show.
The MAMA Breakthrough Artist Competition was created to guide new artists (solo performers and bands, in all genres of music) as they create successful, independent, small businesses and grow them into larger businesses. The judging criteria is set to address all aspects of working and performing in the music industry: showing up on time, social media use, having merchandise to sell, etc.
Fifteen musical acts are currently in the running: Blythe Gamble and the Rollinâ;; Dice, Chris LaBella, Dogs of War, Dolores, Evan Riley Band, Karen Wheelock, Oh My Love, SheShe, Skizzwhores, Teddy Davenport, The Civil Engineers, The Lowdown, the Wells Division, The Wild Things, and Trap Saturn. This list needs to be whittled to eight finalists. The MAMA needs your help to do that.
With a $5 donation to the MAMA, you receive a membership in the organization and gain access to the online voting system, allowing you to help choose the top Breakthrough Artist in the Madison Area. To get cast your vote, visit the MAMA online at http://themamas.org/awards/ and click on the â;;Voteâ;; button.
Breakthrough Artist Competition finalists will be announced at the MAMA Awards 2015 Finalist Announcement Party on March 28, 2015, at 8 p.m. at the Brink Lounge, 701 E. Washington St., Madison. The event will include drink specials, a silent auction, and live music from Lazydeadpoet, The Lucas Cates Band, and Gin, Chocolate & Bottle Rockets. There is a $10 cover charge at the door for this event. Proceeds will be used to further the mission and vision of the MAMA. To make a donation to the silent auction, email email@example.com.
The eight Breakthrough Artist Competition finalists will perform live in a battle of the bands on April 17 at the The Annex at The Red Zone, 1212 Regent St., Madison, where they will have 15 minutes to showcase their talents. A panel of three industry judges will critique the performances and determine the top three finishers. The No. 1 artist will win a grand prize package and go on to perform at the 2015 MAMA Awards Show.
The MAMA Awards Show is the largest fundraiser of the year for the non-profit association. Proceeds from the MAMA Awards Show allow the association to continue its mission of providing financial support and resources through grants to youth music programs in the Greater Madison Area. The 2015 MAMA Awards Show will be held at the Capitol Theater of the Overture Center on July 12, 2015.
