Gilda's Club of Madison Presents: Nutrition and Culinary Translation Creating Nourishing Meals
There is wide agreement that one of the most important things we can do to support our health is to give our bodies the nutrients they need. There are many theories of nutrition out there. We need to know how to translate that science into delicious meals that come out of our kitchen. This 2-hour workshop focuses on foods that support health and well-being. We will explore and demonstrate how to define the concept of health supportive foods in a way that is nutritious, delicious and practical. You will learn the eight principles of health supportive food selection, which foods are most important to include and which ones to avoid. We will also discuss healthy substitutes, how to use flavor-building techniques to improve the culinary and physiological benefits of food, food preparation techniques for creating therapeutic meals that appeal to an individual' s taste preferences, and simple and practical menu plans that meet nutritional needs for patients with specific eating and dietary challenges.
