Almost Sunrise
Edgewood College-Predolin Humanities Center, Anderson Auditorium 1000 Edgewood College Drive, Madison, Wisconsin 53711
press release: Edgewood College is pleased to invite Greater Madison to a screening of the film “Almost Sunrise.” This powerful documentary will be shown at 6:00 pm, Thursday, March 22, 2018, in Anderson Auditorium. There is no admission charge.
“Almost Sunrise” follows two Iraq veterans, Tom Voss and Anthony Anderson, who struggle with depression upon returning home from service. Fearful of succumbing to the epidemic of veteran suicide, they seek a lifeline and embark on a 2,700-mile walk across America as a way to confront their inner pain.
The film captures an intimate portrait of two friends suffering from the unseen wounds of war as they discover an unlikely treatment: the restorative power of silence and meditation.
The screening will be followed by a guided discussion about mental health trauma, moral injury and other topics that our veteran and service member population face today. This special evening is presented in partnership by the Office of Military and Veterans Services at Edgewood College and the UW-Madison School of Social Work.
While this film is unrated, it does deal with issues of violence, war, mental health, trauma, suicide and addiction; there are also instances of mild cursing. Parents and educators should use their discretion if considering accompanying children aged 14 or under.
