press release: Madison Magazine’s 2017 Barbecue Festival kicks off on Friday, May 19 at Meyer Oak Grove Park in Sauk City. The two-day event will feature a wide variety of finger-licking barbecue for sale from local favorites and regional and national pros, delicious festival fare, sweets, treats, sauces and so much more. For the first time ever, enjoy barbecue and all the fixings from BBQ pros around the country, including Chicago’s Coyote Roadhouse and Philadelphia’s Aussom Aussie. Plus, enjoy local favorites Double S BBQ, RibMasters Wisconsin, Bob’s BBQ Emporium, Gristle Catering, Ma & Pop BBQ and Dan Fox’s Willow Creek Farms. Then vote for your favorite to see who wins the battle of the barbecue!
Meyer Oak Grove Park will be heavily tented in case of inclement weather, including all entertainment, demonstrations and children’s activities.
Barbecue demos featuring chefs, brew masters, grills and more will entertain and educate, while the children’s play zone will attract kids of all sizes. With barbecue in hand, guests can grab beer or wine and rock out at the TundraLand Home Improvements music stage. Musical entertainment includes Madison County on Friday, May 19, and WheelHouse and the LoveMonkeys on Saturday, May 20.
For the first time ever, the entire festival is fenced off so you can enjoy your beverages throughout the park. The festival also includes a Kansas City Barbecue Society sanctioned competition, featuring professional barbecue competitors from around the nation smoking up delicious meat for sanctioned judges in four categories: chicken, ribs, pork and brisket.Admission to the event is free, and non-profit partners include the Sauk Prairie Area Chamber of Commerce and the Sauk Prairie Young Professionals Group.
