press release: Dick Mixin Recording is proud to announce a CD release party for recording artist Bill Roberts on June 9, from 6 pm to midnight, at the Brink Lounge on East Washington Avenue in Madison. Music starts at 8 pm with an opening set from Josh Harty; Bill Roberts plays at 9:30 pm, with special guests Dave Stanoch on drums; Steve Roberts on keyboards; Sarah Hastings on sax; Ben Shult on bass; and Joe Wallner on keyboards.
Madison’s own Bill Roberts is one of the greatest guitar talents working in America today. If you think that is hyperbole, then you probably have never taken in a set of the Bill Roberts Combo.
He has just released his first solo CD, Blues Rides Shotgun, which was produced by Dick Mixin Recording. It includes two classic blues covers and an amazing collection of eight of Bill’s original songs and represents some of the finest work of his career.
Over the 42 years that Bill has been a part of the Madison music scene, he has been a member of Clyde Stubblefield’s Review, served as the lead guitar in Pat McDonald and the Essentials, and, along with Butch Vig and Duke Erickson, was a founding member of Spooner. He began his collection of MAMAs awards with the band Blue Beyond in 2007.
