The Promega Spring Art Showcase presents ‘From Pulp to Prints: The Art of Papermaking & Collaboration’ showcasing the art of hand-made paper pieces from artists Bill Weege and Bruce Crownover who have collaborated in the art of paper making and printing for the past 25 years.
Artists will tell the stories of their creative process and the inspiration behind their work during a symposium on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 from 3:30 - 4:30 pm, followed by a reception from 4:30 - 6:30 pm at the Promega BioPharmaceutical Technology Center, 5445 E Cheryl Parkway in Fitchburg. Both events are open to the public.
Exhibiting artists include:
- Bill Weege is a University of Wisconsin-Madison alumnus. He joined the faculty of the Art Department at the University in 1971. In 1987, he founded Tandem Press. He served on the faculty as a distinguished professor until his retirement in 1998, when he shifted focus to making art full-time. Weege’s prints and works on paper are included in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Boston Museum of Fine Arts, the Brooklyn Museum, the Kansas City Art Museum, The Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the British Museum.
- Bruce Crownover was raised in Southern California and is an artist and printmaker. He came to Madison to study printmaking at the UW-Madison’s printmaking department. Coincidentally, his first year in Madison in 1987 was also the same year professor Bill Weege founded Tandem Press. Crownover and other students were invited by Weege to volunteer at Tandem Press to help him launch the printmaking studio. Shortly thereafter, Crownover earned his MFA in printmaking. The inspiration of his art is rooted in his fascination with landscapes, weather and space. He continues a long standing tradition of exploring nature with his current project, The Last Glacier, which captures a glimpse of the retreating glaciers of the Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park in Alberta, Canada and Montana.
The Spring Art Showcase runs from Tuesday, March 13, 2018 through June 1, 2018. The exhibit is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am – 4:00 pm and is made possible through support from Promega Corporation. ‘From Pulp to Prints: The Art of Papermaking & Collaboration’ is curated and produced by Tim Rooney.
