Former members of Cross Canadian Ragweed, led by Cody Canada, are bringing their latest incarnation to Madison. The Departed isn’t a reinvention of the group’s sound, or a reimagining of Canada’s musical perspective – it’s a reunion. The refitted outfit is channeling the power chords and raw-bone ballads, those which lifted The Departed into the status as Red Dirt’s biggest name, on their brand new album titled “Hippie Love Punk.” Canada relies on his musical prowess and lyrical insight, and has rightfully been placed in a prominent class of modern songwriters occupied by the influential likes of Robert Earl Keen, Bruce and Charlie Robison, Todd Snider, Mike McClure and the men of Reckless Kelly, among only a strict few others. The Departed are a true rock and roll band who bring with them the roots of Texas Country legends.
Opening the show is WheelHouse, a nationally touring Americana and bluegrass band hailing from Madison, Wisconsin. As a full-time working band they perform over 220 shows per year and have garnered attention from national labels. Featuring three and four part harmonies, fiddle and guitar leads, and driving rhythm of the upright bass WheelHouse brings an energy seldom seen from string bands. The band also owns their own brand of whiskey appropriately named WheelHouse Whiskey, which is sold throughout southern Wisconsin.
