Fall Color Hike - October 24 at Lake Ripley Preserve
The Friends of Glacial Heritage Area is hosting a Fall Color Hike on Saturday, October 24 at Lake Ripley District Preserve, 10 a.m. All are welcome! Families are encouraged to attend – fall treats and hot cider will be provided by the Friends.
A 167-acre property situated at the headwaters of Lake Ripley’s inlet stream, the Preserve’s main hiking trail meanders through wetlands, restored prairie and deciduous woods. The gently rolling trail is under three miles long.
Meet at the Preserve parking area at 10 a.m. Please wear a piece of orange blaze clothing (hat, vest), good hiking shoes and hiking poles if needed. Restrooms will be open at the Oakland Town Hall (N4450 County Road A) twenty minutes prior to the hike and after the hike. In case of inclement weather, please check Facebook (Glacial Heritage Area) for cancellation.
To get to the Preserve, take Highway 12 in Jefferson County. Turn onto County Road A (turn right coming from Fort Atkinson, turn left coming from Cambridge). Look for the Lake Ripley District Preserve sign and parking area on the east side of the road.
The Friends of Glacial Heritage Area organize free events such as hikes and other nature-based activities to encourage everyone to get outdoors and enjoy parks, preserves, trails and wildlife areas in the GHA. Contact the Friends at friendsofgha@gmail.com with questions.
