Earlier this year, Brooklyn's Big Thief released Masterpiece (Saddle Creek), one of the most stunning debut albums of the year. The praise has been exuberant, with NPR Music's readers (and hosts) calling it their #1 debut of the year so far, as well as including it in their list of 30 favorite albums and the song "Masterpiece" in their 100 Favorite Songs of the Year. Paste, SPIN, Rolling Stone, and more covered the band in their various "best new band" franchises, while also being featured by Pitchfork, Newsweek, Magnet, Under The Radar, and American Songwriter, to name a few.
"A missing link between multiple Nineties moments. The band's debut, Masterpiece, is a decades-overdue convergence of tender alt-country, pugnacious indie rock and vulnerable emo, led by a voice that switches between solace and a scream." - Rolling Stone, 10 Artists You Need To Know
"A mesmerizing debut. Their sound seems perfected from years of experience despite being a new band. The lyrics are beautiful, sharp and piercing, the band compliments the songwriting perfectly and swirls psychedelically around the breathtaking croon of Adrianne Lenker. Every one these songs make me choke up." - Bob Boilen, NPR Music, #1 Favorite New Musician of 2016 So Far
"Masterpiece is one of the strongest debut albums of 2016. It's an album on being human, finding compassion, being a lover or just a friend." - Bob Boilen, NPR Music, 30 Favorite Albums of 2016 So Far.
