History Sandwiched In: The History of Camp Randall Memorial Park’s Cultural Landscape
During the Civil War, Camp Randall was the site of Wisconsin's largest military training ground. After the war ended, veterans from the Grand Army of the Republic fought to build a memorial park there to honor their fallen comrades. In this illustrated talk, Daniel Einstein, historic and cultural resources manager at UW-Madison, untangles the legends and mysteries linked to the "loose" cannons, the memorial arch, and the prison guard house at Camp Randall Memorial Park.
