press release: To experience House of Waters is to experience music outside the realm of genre. Max ZT (hammered dulcimer), Moto Fukushima (six-string electric bass), and Ignacio Rivas Bixio (drums) spin a web of sound and vibration with the use of elements gathered from West-African, jazz, psychedelic, indie rock, classical and world music. With roots in Irish folk music, ZT has studied his instrument in Senegal and India where he received a grant to study under the shantoor (a relative of the hammered dulcimer) master Pandit Shivkumar Sharma.
“Our music is a constant melting pot, which is so relevant to now,” says ZT. “It’s like that last D’Angelo record or Kendrick’s Butterfly...you know, that wasn’t just rap, or hip-hop, or jazz, or soul, but it had all of that. It’s an amorphous thing. It’s how the future is going to be.”
2016 marked the debut of their eponymous release on Snarky Puppy's Ground UP label to which Roger Farbey of “All About Jazz” wrote, “House Of Waters resonates throughout with a true eclecticism drawing its influences from many sources. A rare and beautiful gem.”
Delarue of “New York Music Daily” said, “House of Waters are one of New York’s most interesting and unique bands. Part funky jam band, part Afrobeat and part pan-Asian, there is no other group in the world who sound remotely like them.”
