Makeshift
to
Tenney Park 1500 Sherman Ave., Madison, Wisconsin 53703
The second annual Makeshift Festival brings together Midwestern artists, chefs and public park lovers to the beautiful island in the middle of the lagoon at Tenney Park. The day-long celebration of art, food, and public spaces has a focus on sustainability and community, as the festival organizers seek to immerse Madisonians in a new blending of local cultures.
press release: Makeshift Festival is an annual summer party that exposes people to cutting edge food, beverage and visual art in a different environment. Thousands of people come together to explore the unique, engaging & immersive outdoor experience and, in the process, the day becomes a new lasting memory for many, and a new way to add to the rich history of Madison’s parks.
Makeshift was started with a simple premise: Madison’s Parks are an incredible backdrop; one that can provide an inspiring setting for culinary and visual creativity-- and that this creativity should be as accessible to as many people as possible.
Cooks and restaurants are invited from across the Midwest and beyond, attracting a large audience of food enthusiasts who are excited to try new dishes previously unavailable in Madison, all at affordable prices-- $7 or less-- making this creative endeavor accessible to a wide variety of people.
Through a submission process, artists are selected based upon their work in important social topics: community, sustainability, public commodities & public spaces. Makeshift 2017 featured over 20 renowned artists from throughout the Midwest.
Each year Makeshift Festival is hosted at a different Madison park. The fest is an annual event presented by the Madison Parks Foundation. Madison Parks Foundation is an enthusiastic advocate for Madison’s extraordinary parks system. As a 501(c)(3)organization, MPF carries on Madison’s deep tradition of private support for public spaces by acting as the living legacy of the private citizens who established Madison’s first parks at the turn of the last century.
