Off the Wall
Arts + Literature Laboratory 111 S. Livingston St., Madison, Wisconsin 53703
press release: Arts + Literature Laboratory (ALL) is seeking submissions for OFF THE WALL: a nighttime, outdoor screening series of contemporary video art. The series presents a survey of the most compelling and innovative moving image works froma broad cross-section of artists—local to international, emerging to mid-career.
Works selected for OFF THE WALL will be screened outdoors at Arts + Literature Laboratory for public audiences on each Saturday night in August 2018. There is no specific theme or format required for submissions, however, works will be curated into thematic screenings based on form and content.
The deadline for submissions is June 15, 2018. Artists interested in submitting work to OFF THE WALL should read the guidelines and terms before completing the application, available on ALL’s website: artlitlab.org/events/off-the-
OFF THE WALL was founded by artist collaborative Simone and Max in 2016 in their capacity as Lead Curators at ALL, with the goal of establishing a regular, off-campus venue for diverse contemporary film and video. In particular, the series aims to support alternative and experimental work produced in the last three years. Since piloting the program, OFF THE WALL has screened works by 77 artists—from 50 countries across 6 continents—culled from 728 submissions. This curatorial selectivity provides local artists with a valuable opportunity to share the screen with national and international talent while exposing Madison area residents to global currents in contemporary video art. Past screenings have included works by James Bridle, Lizzie Fitch & Ryan Trecartin, Sky Hopinka, Keiichi Matsuda, Steve Roggenbuck, and Lina Selander, among others.
Screenings are free to attend and open to the public. The viewing area is ADA accessible with an all-gender restroom onsite. Artists will be announced on July 1, 2018; visit artlitlab.org for program updates and to learn more about ALL.
