press release:
McPherson ERI Spring 2015 Lectures!
MERI will sponsor two groundbreaking visitors this spring:
Dr. Hany Farid (Dartmouth College, Department of Computer Science) will speak about the emerging field of photo forensics on Thursday, April 16th at 5:45pm (Room 1125 Biochemistry Bldg). The issue of photographic trust impacts many areas of science, law, ethics, journalism, law enforcement, and finance; the field of photo forensics has emerged to help return trust in photography. This lecture is co-sponsored by the departments of Computer Sciences and Life Sciences Communication and supported by the UW Lectures Committee.
Dr. Sheila Nirenberg (Weill Medical College of Cornell University, Department of Physiology and Biophysics) will speak about neural coding, and the development of prosthetic devices which can interpret the brain's "code" in order to treat blindness, on Monday, May 18th at 4:30pm (Ebling Symposium Center, Microbial Sciences Bldg). Nirenberg, a MacArthur Foundation "Genius" Fellow, will deliver the 3rd Annual McPherson Endowed Lecture; the talk will be preceded by a reception at 3pm.
Both lectures are free and open to the campus and to the greater Madison community. Please join us to hear these exciting speakers!
