Rostam
With Joy Again.
Arguably the better half of indie-legends Vampire Weekend, Rostam Batmanglij brings his gorgeous orchestral-infused baroque pop to High Noon for an intimate performance. The lush compositions mix drum machine samples to create beautifully textured ballads. (He samples Paul Simon’s “Obvious Child” on the single “Don’t Let It Get to You.”) Like the first three Vampire Weekend records, Batmanglij’s new album, Half Light, is deeply personal and filled with introspective lyricism. With Joy Again.
$15 (ages 18+).
press release:
"A sublime collection of baroque pop... one of the more extraordinary records of the year" - Daily Beast
"A wondrous album... The majestic, seesawing strings hint at the peace and pleasures of letting someone else in... Batmanglij sings gently, in a way that feels overwhelmingly intimate. He smears certain lines that seem too vulnerable." - New Yorker
"Half-Light is filled with lush details... It's joyous and catchy, intimate and spacious, and, like its creator, exists in a musical world all its own." - Interview Magazine
"... admirably, he's refused to choose between [Vampire Weekend's] Ivy League-aesthete indie rock and modern vernacular electro-pop, opting instead to cherry-pick the best of both worlds." -****, Rolling Stone
Founded in 2015 after its members met in boarding school, Joy Again released debut singles “Looking Out For You” and “How You Feel” on Mom + Pop (US) and Lucky Number (UK). Their vivid storytelling and seemingly effortless command of melody charmed the internet and saw them dubbed a “staple of the Philly basement scene” as they continued to garner attention on the international scale. The band has performed with the likes of Car Seat Headrest, Hinds, Daywave, and Hoops.
