The Abduction from the Seraglio
Madison Opera
Madison Opera presents an opera written by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart when he was just 26, his first major success. A lively story about a Spanish nobleman who sets out to rescue his shipwrecked fiancee from a Pasha’s palace, the work is beloved for the virtuosity of its music. Legend has it that Emperor Joseph II, who commissioned the piece, complained to Mozart that the opera had “too many notes,” to which Mozart famously replied: “There are just as many notes as there should be.”
