The cast of University Theatre's The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui in rehearsal.
UW-Madison’s theater department sets German playwright Bertolt Brecht’s parable about the rise of fascism in Chicago’s violent gangland culture of the early 20th century. Brecht was sent into exile from Hitler’s Germany for promoting the kind of Marxist philosophy that’s evident in this play. Recent revivals have likened Ui to Trump, and under the direction of Shad Williams the play should have a lot of relevance today.
7:30 pm Thursdays-Saturdays and 2 pm Sundays, 3/1-18.
