press release: Transcend UW is an on-campus organization that hosts the nation's largest student-run innovation competition.
The annual Transcend Innovation Competition, powered by Qualcomm, is an event with over $50,000 worth of prizes available for teams or individuals who have come up with product ideas and business plans for implementing them. Different award categories include 1st ($15,000), 2nd ($10,000), and 3rd ($8,000) overall, "Best Pitch," "Transcend Alumni Award" (voted on by past event winners), "Fan Favorite," and many more. We currently have over 100 teams signed up; the competition has been exponentially growing in size ever since it began 2 years ago! The competition takes place on April 4 and April 5 at the Wisconsin Institute for Discovery.
Main Competition:
April 4 consists of 10 minute long pitches followed by 5 minutes of Q&A from judging panel. Top teams are called back to have a further 30 minute discussion with the judges on April 5
Early Stage Competition: Pitches only take place on April 4. Pitches are 10 minutes long followed by 5 minutes of Q&A from judging panel.
The events run 8am to 5pm each day. Also, on April 5, at 5 pm, our commencement will take place, which will feature speeches from engineering dean, Ian Robertson, and interim vice chancellor of the university, Lori Berquam.
