Trump as Policymaker: A First-Year Report Card

Yglesias will share his thoughts on the most interesting policy changes during President Donald Trump’s first 14 months in office, identifying the disjuncture between what policy issues have received the most attention and what areas have seen the most significant change.
Professor Pam Herd, Associate Professor Mark Copelovitch, and Yglesias then will identify the Trump Administration’s most critical domestic and foreign policy and administrative changes, including those that have not dominated the headlines. The three panelists also will answer audience questions.
Yglesias, who studied philosophy at Harvard University, created Vox.com with Ezra Klein and Melissa Bell in 2014. He is a senior correspondent focused on politics and economic policy, and he co-hosts The Weeds podcast on Tuesdays and Fridays.
Born and raised in New York City, Yglesias previously wrote the Moneybag column for Slate and blogged for Think Progress, The Atlantic, TPM, and The American Prospect. He is the author of two books, most recently “The Rent Is Too Damn High” about the policy origins of the middle class housing affordability crisis in the United States. His first book, “Heads in the Sand,” was published in 2008.
Herd’s research focuses on how social policies such as Social Security, and on the relationship between social factors and health. Copelovitch’s research focuses on the politics of international trade and finance, and on international organizations such as the International Monetary Fund, World Trade Organization, and European Union.
