From Bean to Coffee Cup
This coming week, in events that get to your heart through your stomach.
Highlights
Ongoing through March 20
Just when you think they can't make coffee any more complicated, true connoisseurs have started roasting their own beans! At home! Not kidding (it's "easy" and "inexpensive")! Whether you are importing your own Ethiopian Yirgacheffe or prefer just throwing some Folger's Breakfast Blend into the Mr. Coffee, you should drop by Olbrich Gardens to see From Bean to Coffee Cup, the current exhibit at the Bolz Conservatory. A self-guided tour takes visitors through the coffee plant's cultivation and bean processing. Daily, through March 20. Olbrich Gardens, 3330 Atwood Ave., 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Mon.-Sat and until 5 p.m. Sun., $1. Call 246-4550 for more info.
Saturday, January 15
One of the most popular elements of the winter Dane County Farmers' Market is the weekly "Taste of the Market" breakfast. This week's meal will be made by the Slow Food Madison chapter. On the menu: spinach, mushroom and parmesan frittata; roasted garlic and herb root veggies including multi-colored potatoes, turnips, parsnips and carrots; fresh salad with micro greens and other mixed fresh greens and topped with carrot coins and beauty heart radishes; maple-glazed bacon; and a dollop of apple sauce. All from local purveyors, of course. Need we say yum? Madison Senior Center, 330 W. Mifflin St., 8 a.m.-noon, $7.50. Call 455-1999 for more info.
