Folklorist Jim Leary was honored this year with a Grammy nomination in the album notes category for Folksongs of Another America: Field Recordings from the Upper Midwest, 1937-1946 (Dust-to-Digital). Leary lost out last night to Joni Mitchell, who wrote the notes for her career retrospective, Love Has Many Faces: A Quartet, A Ballet, Waiting to be Danced (Rhino). Nevertheless, the nomination alone was an impressive nod to Leary’s expertise and writing. Bob Jacobson profiled Leary in last week’s Isthmus.
