This has been a busy year so far for the Madison West grads who make up , and is now just getting underway with its first headlining tour, branded as part of the network's What's all the fuss about? Locksley hasn't been shy about admitting the influence of The Beatles in their music, and the group also seems to be following the Fabs' work ethic of touring hard. And like the Fabs relocating to Hamburg off and on to further their careers, this quartet is pushing themselves in New York. That being said, they are not Beatles clones, but the '60s influences in their music are pretty clear -- crisp, uncluttered arrangements, lots of tight harmonies, hooks in all the right places. Locksley definitely sounds like a modern band, though, with tougher '70s power pop-ish guitars added to the mix. Thankfully, they've also employed a straightforward production style that will help their music still sound fresh years from now. The song "All Over Again" is a good example of their sound, with trade-off lead vocals through the verses transitioning into harmonies on the choruses, along with buzzsaw guitars and a clever drum pattern that at first blush sounds off until the interplay against the guitars crystallizes. An MP3 of the track is available in the related downloads at right. More songs by the group can be listened to on its MySpace page. Locksley returns to Madison with the Choose or Lose tour for a show at the Barrymore on Friday, October 10, when they will be supported on the bill by Milwaukee's Fever Marlene and New York City's Hymns.
