Too bad The Grizzlies didn't release their brand new self-titled album a little earlier in the season.
If they had, "Girls of Summer II," singer/guitarist Matt Joyce's buoyant-yet-bittersweet slice of '60s-derived guitar pop already would be serving as the self-lacerating outro for fading summer romances. Fellow Grizzly Justin Aten notes that "GOS II" is a reply tune to a song Joyce penned for the now defunct local garage pop celebrants The Shivers.
To be honest, I don't remember it, but that hardly matters.
Anyone who's mooned over a busted up summertime thing or felt, as Joyce does, that a once special -ex only understands "quid pro quo," will understand exactly what he's talking about. It only all warm weather affairs were this succinct.
