UP: Allied Drive neighborhood. The city's ambitious plan to redevelop the troubled neighborhood gets a boost when the state's Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority awards $7.5 million in tax credits to the project. The financing allows the city to break ground this fall on the first phase of its redevelopment plan, which includes 48 low-income rental units.
DOWN: Famous Footwear. The Madison company decides to move its headquarters to St. Louis, where its parent company, Brown Shoe, is located. The company's 270 office jobs will be shipped to St. Louis, beginning this summer. The company's local distribution center, which employs 130 people, and its retail stores are not affected.
