UP: American Transmission Company. The private, for-profit company scores another win as the state Public Service Commission approves its plan for a six-mile, 138-kilovolt line between Fitchburg and Verona. Fitchburg, which wanted to use the land for a public park, had offered $6 million in tax increment financing to put the line underground. But the PSC refused to order ATC to do so, saying it would still be too expensive.
DOWN: Privacy. The state Department of Revenue includes Social Security numbers on a mailing to about 5,000 residents in northeastern Wisconsin. It's the third time in a year that the state has inadvertently revealed Social Security numbers on a mass mailing. Recently, an outside contractor for the state included the numbers on newsletters sent to 260,000 state Medicaid recipients. The state has offered free credit monitoring to those affected by the mailings. Good luck with that.
