UP: Cow manure. Dane County has turned on its $12 million manure digester, a project that will remove phosphorus from farm fields while at the same time produce energy. The digester is expected to produce $2 million in electricity each year, enough to power 2,500 homes. No shit.
DOWN: Brian Deschane. The 27-year-old son of a well-heeled lobbyist was tapped by Gov. Scott Walker for an $81,500-a-year job with the Department of Commerce even though he lacks relevant experience, doesn't have a college degree and has twice been convicted for driving under the influence. The appointment was so outrageous that the shame-resistant Walker demoted Deschane back to his former patronage job, at just $65,000 a year. Times are tough all over.
