UP: Juan Colas. The longtime assistant attorney general is tapped by Gov. Jim Doyle to become Dane County's first Hispanic circuit court judge. Colas, 50, was born in Colombia and came to the U.S. in 1962 at age 5. He will replace Judge Angela Bartell, who retired after 30 years; his term runs through 2009.
DOWN: Snow-weary Madisonians. Another 3.7 inches of white stuff falls early this week, pushing the city's total so far this winter to 79.2 inches, an all-time record. The old record, set in 1978-79, was 76.1 inches. Meteorologists predict the final total could top 100 inches.
