UP: Maple syrup farmers. Wisconsin hits a record for syrup production this spring, with 265,000 gallons. Overall production was up fivefold over last year's harvest, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service. "It was a perfect year," Gretchen Grape of Grape's Sugar Bush in Holcombe, tells the Wisconsin State Journal. "It was cold at night and it just warmed enough during the day."
DOWN: Joshua Inglett. The UW-Platteville student had been nominated by Gov. Scott Walker for the student seat on the UW System's Board of Regents. But last week, Walker yanked Inglett's nomination without saying why. However, Inglett told reporters the governor's office asked him if he had signed the petition to recall Walker from office two years ago (Inglett had). Sen. Jon Erpenbach (D-Middleton) says: "At some point, Scott Walker has got to let this stuff go. He's a sitting governor picking on a college kid. Governing by paranoia is not going to get us anywhere." Oh, it'll get us somewhere.
