UP: Republican senators facing recall. Two of the six state Senate Republicans facing recall have gotten a boost courtesy of the anti-gay group Wisconsin Family Action and Americans for Prosperity, a conservative group funded by billionaire David Koch. The groups mailed absentee ballot applications to Democrats with incorrect information, telling voters to return the ballots by Aug. 11, when in fact the election is Aug. 9.
DOWN: Drug users. Authorities report that heroin use is on the rise in Dane County, in part because of increased addiction to prescription opiates. Madison Police Chief Noble Wray tells the Wisconsin State Journal, "It's very rare that I come in [the office] when I'm not hearing of a heroin overdose." County and city officials have revived a task force - which was formed last year but fizzled out after just a few meetings - to confront the problem.
