UP: St. Raphael Cathedral. Madison Bishop Robert Morlino announces plans to rebuild the cathedral, destroyed by arson in March 2005, on its old site downtown. The project, expected to cost more than $14 million, will include the $1 million steeple that was placed atop the church just months before it burned, which was saved from the blaze.
DOWN: Elver Park fireworks. Clear Channel Madison snuffs a 20-year tradition of July 4th fireworks at the west-side park after four other corporate sponsors drop out. The event has been losing money for years and was $60,000 short this year.
