UP: Walmartopia. The musical written by Madison couple Catherine Capellaro and Andrew Rohn opens in an off-Broadway theater in New York City. The show, a political satire about a future in which Wal-Mart owns everything - including human souls - debuted at the Bartell Theatre with Madison's Mercury Players in 2004.
DOWN: Impeachment. Despite a pro-impeachment rally, a petition with more than 8,000 signatures and residents who waited until 3 a.m. to testify, the Madison Common Council rejects a resolution recommending that Congress impeach George Bush and Dick Cheney. The vote was 8-3; 11 votes were needed to pass. Eight members abstained, saying the council should focus on city business. Ald. Thuy Pham-Remmele, a Vietnamese immigrant, voted no, asking her colleagues, "Do you think Congress will listen to you?" Not if you don't say anything.
